    Regarding using layers how do you put a moon in a picture that was not there to begin with ; Or take a moon from one picture and place it in another like photoshop can . Your tutorial is beautiful and explains things well. Is there a web site where I can go to see more ? I recently downloaded Pixelmator 2.0 and would love to master it . I have a Mac with the lion application .I need more tutorials about Pixelmator2.0 to understand it .Thank you for your help …Robert

    Robert, have a look at text tutorials as well. I’m sure you’ll find some tips and tricks there. Here is a link to a tutorial where you can learn how to place an object from image to another:

    http://www.pixelmator.com/tutorials/changing-backgrounds/

    and there is more coming.

    The tuts seem to to go from comprehensive to almost mystical. It would be nice to have the option to drill down for those starting off like me.

    Thanks!

    Another lovely and artistic tutorial also missing the most basic aspects. Where is layers 101? Wehre is yur thinking on what is supposed to happen when one picture is laid on top of anoher? The behavior is so foreign to Photoshp as to be incomprehensible. I’m sure I’ll be delighted when I do learn what you were thinking but already been five months and I can’t wait another five months to stumble upon this.

    I’ve had P 2.0.1 for five months and still cnanot figure out or even learn easily from forums what you were thinking on basic layer behavior. When I put a second picture on tp of the first, the underlying picture disappears and is no longer available. I spend too much of every week learning new software and after a while even the appeal of this program I like doe snot make up for the lack of more basic instrucitons on several features.

    @bruce
    when you put “…second picture on top of the first…” for the underlying picture to show through you need to change blending mode or opacity of the top layer (i.e. second picture). You can do that in the bottom part of the Layers palette where Blending and Opacity options are!
